Summary of Applemore College

Applemore College is a popular 11 – 16 mixed comprehensive school with just under 700 students on roll. Student numbers have increased dramatically this year and we are over-subscribed in Year 7 for September 2019. Ofsted visited the College recently in February 2017 judging that the College continue to be a ‘Good’ School that is ‘Ambitious for All’ its students.

Ofsted Inspectors were very impressed by the caring, inclusive and nurturing ethos of the College and in particular the strong moral purpose of staff and Governors to provide the very best education for our students.

Inspectors also recognised the strong relationships between staff and pupils, saying that these were the bedrock of a very positive atmosphere in which pupils want to learn and that staff use their extensive knowledge of pupils to provide the best support possible for each of them to develop their learning and understanding. As a result, pupils make good, and sometimes better, progress.

Competent, professional subject specialists and effective support teams staff the College. The teaching accommodation comprises a variety of specialist rooms, including five science laboratories, two technology workshops, two food technology rooms, a textiles room, two art studios, a drama studio, music suite equipped with Apple technology, library resource centre and five computer suites. Our million pound re-cladding project to our Arts and English Block is well underway and should be completed at the end of the Summer Term.

Applemore is one of only six schools in Hampshire to have a resourced Dyslexia Support Unit and we are very proud our students achieve above expectations as a result of the dedicated team of staff who implement a highly successful programme of support that is personalised to student needs.

The College also boasts a state-of-the-art, full-size, floodlit all-weather pitch together with good-sized playing fields and two outside hard court areas. The majority of PE lessons take place at Applemore Health and Leisure Centre which is part of our campus but is run independently to the College. The Centre has a wide variety of sporting and recreational facilities including a swimming pool. As the College is near to the New Forest, the coast and Calshot Activities Centre, these are easily accessible for outdoor activities and fieldwork.

Staff know our students very well and as a result we can support and encourage them to achieve their personal best. We are ambitious for all our students and staff work hard to create a learning environment based on mutual respect to ensure we are a school where:

  • Students are proud of their own and others’ achievements
  • Students are responsible for their own behaviour
  • A learning culture is respected
  • Everyone is known and valued
  • High aspirations are encouraged
  • Students achieve their personal best

We look forward to your application.
