Two days this week, Year 11 geographers were out applying their skills to the fieldwork section on their specification of learning. We were exploring the changing quality of life across Southampton and started from the High Street and moved northwards until we reached the suburbs in Bassett near Chilworth.
At each of our study locations students were tasked with collecting primary data which would either confirm or conflict the government deprivation data we will be using as secondary data. I am pleased to say, our students collected a wealth of data and in our lesson since, we have confirmed we match those of the government; maybe civil servants of the future?! Noise surveys, environmental quality bi-polar analysis and questionnaires all complimented the students’ good behaviour and as one member of the public said at site 3, “these young adults are so well-behaved and it was a delight to speak with them”.
